"[Lakeland was] very unified, because we couldn't do anything. And somebody else saw it, they will call your parents and tell your parents. So we knew that whatever we did, if anybody did anything wrong, they called and tell your parents. So they were very unified. If anybody needed anything, somebody else's family would give it to them. So it was actually a close knit community."

Description
An account of the resource
J. Chesley Mack is seated second from the left in this 1957 photograph of the College Park Town Council. He served as a member of that legislative body from 1945 until 1957. Mack was one of the first in Lakeland to complete a course of higher education. He was an influential local leader, a successful businessman, and a chef employed by the University of Maryland.
